Willcox Little League Softball wins game one of World Series

Greenville, NC — Willcox Little League (West) outdueled West Point Little League from Pennsylvania (Mid-Atlantic) to pick up a 2-1 win in the opening game of the Little League Softball World Series.

Hattie Macumber threw a complete game 3-hitter and struck out 15 for the West squad. The 15 strikeouts are a new World Series record for a regulation game. Mid-Atlantic pitcher Lexi Stabile also threw a complete game and only gave up 3 hits and struck out 6 in the pitcher’s duel.

Navaeh Reyes, Jayleen Aguirre and Macumber each singled and Julie Ann Larson was credited with 2 RBI on a fielder’s choice that opened the scoring in the bottom of the 4th. Pennsylvania would add their lone run in the top of the 5th on a Morgan Maiers base hit.

The West will play New England champion, Cranston Western Little League, from Cranston, Rhode Island on Monday August 5th at 10am Arizona time. The game will air on ESPN+
