SAFFORD — The Graham County Fairgrounds is getting a bit of a make-over.

During Monday’s Board of Supervisors meeting, Graham County Manager Dustin Welker said a number of upgrades to the fairgrounds are underway.

The cement slab for the back half of the Ag Building has been poured, so now the county has to coat it with an epoxy sealant.

“We’re hoping to get that floor done by this weekend. That will give us 28 days for it to cure and, hopefully, be ready for the fair,” Welker said.

Welker also credited the board for obtaining the millings from the recent work by the Arizona Department of Transportation on U.S. Highway 191. Those millings will be used to develop parking lots at the fairgrounds, as well as a few other projects throughout the county.

Welker also said the county is waiting to hear back from the Graham County Historical Society about the society’s proposed museum. The county has given the society a draft lease agreement to locate the museum at the fairgrounds.

And finally Welker said a contractor is currently at the fairgrounds installing new roll-up doors on all the exhibit buildings.

“The state fire inspector told us our barn doors were no longer good. After 70 years, for some reason, this is the year,” Welker said.
