SAFFORD — It’s another packed weekend when it comes to holiday activities.

Things start Thursday, Dec. 2, with the first of three nights of the 10th annual Live Nativity on the lawn of the Gila Valley Temple in Central.

Performers re-enact the birth of Christ, and there will be musical selections between performances.

The Live Nativity will take place at 6, 6:45, 7:30 and 8:15 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Things really heat up on Saturday, with a car audio bass competition at Audiovisions in Thatcher. Competition gets under way at noon and the event is also a food and toy drive to help those in need in the Gila Valley.

At 4 p.m. Santa will return to the Safford Theater on Main Street to hear the requests from girls and boys, and entertainment will begin at 5 p.m. at 5th Avenue and Main Street, and the 24th annual Country Financial Light Parade, along Main Street from Graham County Courthouse to Central Avenue, will begin after sunset, around 6 p.m.

“I had someone ask me the other day, ‘What should I put in? What kind of float, what should I do, what’s the theme?’ I said, ‘Think of one thing and one thing only — what are the kids going to like to see,’ ” said Country Financial’s Vaughn Grant.

From 6-8 p.m. there will be a Christmas party for special needs individuals at the Common Sense Building at Graham County Fairgrounds.

Unfortunately, one holiday tradition will not be taking place.

The Catholic Daughters announced Tuesday that the annual Festival of Trees at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church parish hall has been canceled.
