Water Conservation Grant funding replacement of SHS football field

PHOENIX — On Dec. 4, the state Water Infrastructure Finance Authority announced that, through Nov. 15, $87 million in grants have been awarded across the state through the Water Conservation Grant program, including two recipients in Graham County.

Safford Unified School District will receive $250,000 to replace the existing football field at the high school with a new, 93,000 square-foot artificial turf field.

The Eden Water Company will receive $100,000 to replace manually-read water meters with smart meters. Eden Water Company serves 151 customers in Eden, Glenbar and Cork.

Nearby Cochise County is also receiving two grants, one in the amount of $156,000 to install smart meters in the Pomerene Domestic Water District, near Benson; and the other is $118,715 for hardscape replacement with artificial turf in the Willcox Pioneer Cemetery.

There are no grants listed for Greenlee County.

Maricopa County leads the way with 18 grants awarded, totaling $28.9 million. Pima County is receiving nine grants totaling $13.4 million, while Pinal is also receiving nine grants totaling $3.1 million.
