SAFFORD — Southeastern Arizona Community Unique Services is looking for a little help to serve home-bound seniors.
SEACUS is seeking volunteers to serve as drivers for the Meals on Wheels program.
“We try to work with every one of the drivers to accommodate their schedule and, so far, it’s worked well,” said Carla Clark, Nutrition Program manager for SEACUS.
Volunteers need to be able to obtain a Level-1 fingerprint clearance card and have a current negative skin test for tuberculosis. Drivers are reimbursed at a rate of 59 cents per mile.
SEACUS currently has 85 clients receiving home-delivered meals each weekday. In addition, SEACUS teams with Eagle’s Roost restaurant in Thatcher to deliver a traditional Thanksgiving dinner to home-bound seniors on the holiday.
Meals are prepared fresh each day at the Graham and Greenlee Senior Centers, and meet federal nutritional guidelines.
The meals are also served at the Senior Centers in Safford, Clifton and Duncan. In June, SEACUS served 946 congregate meals.
