LUBBOCK, Texas — A Willcox man is in custody after allegedly trying to stop National Guardsmen from delivering COVID-19 vaccine.

The man, identified as Larry Lee Harris, 66, reportedly tried to use his vehicle to run the National Guard van off the road Monday morning. When that failed, he pulled in front of the van, stopped, got out and brandished a weapon, ordering the guardsmen to exit the van.

Harris reportedly claimed to be a detective, and told police he believed a kidnapped woman and child were in the van.

Harris was taken into custody without incident and is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful restraint, impersonating a public servant and interference with Texas military forces.
