A Safford police officer driving west on Highway 70 pulled over a black Ford F-150 for having a cracked windshield. The incident occurred just before 6:00 am on September 9, 2023. When the officer approached the vehicle, the driver presented a Nicaraguan ID and said that he did not speak English. His two male passenger didn’t speak English either.
A Spanish-speaking deputy came to talk the three men and found that they were from Nicaragua and none of them had any form of United States identification. The officers contacted the Willcox Border Patrol station, who said they wanted to take custody of the men.
Arrangements were made to transfer custody to Border Patrol agents and the Ford F-150 was impounded.
