GRAHAM COUNTY — A three-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 191, near the Fort Grant Road exit, resulted in the death of three people.
Arizona Department of Public Service reports the crash occurred Wednesday, at about 5:14 p.m.
The driver of a semi-trailer traveling southbound on Highway 191 reported seeing a northbound Kia sedan drift into the truck’s lane. The truck driver attempted to avoid the sedan but was unsuccessful, and the sedan collided with the rear portion of the truck, causing the Kia to continue northbound in the southbound lane.
A Volkswagen sedan, traveling behind the semi, was then struck by the Kia. The driver of the Volkswagen was flown to a Tucson hospital.
Three people in the Kia were killed as a result of the crash — driver Jennifer Lemons, 50, of Safford; and passengers Teresa Hammond, 58, and Tony Plantz, 57, both of Safford.
DPS said investigation into the incident is ongoing.
