Hospital averaging 11 people admitted daily for coronavirus, 93.2 percent not vaccinated

SAFFORD — In its weekly update, Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center announced it has a daily average of 11 patients hospitalized daily due to COVID-19, and more than 93 percent of patients hospitalized since Sept. 1 have not been vaccinated for coronavirus.

Meanwhile, September has passed August as the month with the fourth-most number of new coronavirus cases in the Gila Valley.

With 43 new cases reported by the Graham County Health Department on Thursday, there have been 663 new cases thus far in September.

Only the months of January with 1,889, December 2020 with 1,013 and November 2020 with 969 have seen more new cases.

There were also two coronavirus-related deaths over the last 10 days, bringing the total to 10 in September thus far and 99 since the start of the pandemic.

Graham County continues to offer free vaccinations for anyone over the age of 12, including the FDA-approved Pfizer vaccine, at the vaccination clinic on Main Street at Safford.
