THATCHER — A local biology and chemistry teacher is being recognized at the state level for his outstanding work.

Ethan McBride, who teaches at Thatcher High School, has been named the 2020 Arizona Science Teachers Association Novice Science Teacher.

“I feel like I don’t really deserve it; there’s so many great teachers out there,” he said during a recent appearance on Voice of the Valley. “Why they picked me, I don’t know, but I’m grateful for it.”

The novice award is for a teacher who has been in the classroom for three years or less. He has his bachelor’s degree in general biology from Southern Utah University.

McBride will be presented his award virtually, when the awards ceremony is streamed live Nov. 21. He was nominated for the award by a science teacher in another school district within Graham County.
