PHOENIX — The weirdest season anybody has been a part of has come to an end and the state volleyball tournament matchups have been announced.
Teams have maneuvered around COVID-19 quarantines and cancelled games all season long but at last, the tournament has arrived.
The 2A Conference leadership voted this year to take 16 teams into the field. The top 8 teams based on power points will get a “play-in” bye and teams 9-24 will play with the winners playing the top 8 seeds in the opening round of state.
#10 Morenci will host #23 Phoenix Christian on November 10th at 6pm. The Wildcats finished the season 8-4 and won their last 4 matches. Phoenix Christian was just 3-7 in the regular season.
Pima finished 14-2 and in the top 8 and will wait to see who they play after the play-in round is over.
The 2A tournament will take place at McClintock High School on November 14th and 21st.
The 3A Conference will have the exact same format at 2A. A 16 team tournament with the top 8 teams getting the play-in bye and teams 9-24 playing a play-in game.
#21 Safford will travel across the state to take on Parker on November 10th at 6pm. The Bulldogs were 4-8 on the season. The Broncs were 13-3 this year.
Thatcher finished the regular season 13-3 and in the top 8 and will wait for a winner from the play in round.
The 3A tournament will take place at Marcos de Niza High School on November 14th and 21st.
