THATCHER — Thatcher residents will soon be looking at a slightly higher utility bill.
At its most recent meeting, the Thatcher Town Council voted unanimously to increase trash and sewer rates effective Oct. 1.
Residential trash rates will go from $18 to $22, and residential sewer rates from $15 to $18.
Commercial rate for trash will go from $45 to $54, and all non-residential sewer and residential customers outside town limits will be charged at 120 percent of in-town residential sewer rates.
Town Manager Heath Brown said trash trucks need to be replaced about every five years, and there are significant wastewater treatment needs.
“We have some very large improvements coming to the (wastewater) treatment plant; upward of $1 million, probably,” Brown said.
He said with the rate increases at the proposed levels, the improvements will be paid off in about 20 years.
