THATCHER — The Thatcher Town Council voted Monday to increase the cost of a license to do business in town, but it still remains one of the cheapest licenses in the Gila Valley.

A business license in Thatcher will now cost $40 annually, up from $20.

“It is always a concern when you add any cost to businesses,” said Mayor Randy Bryce, “but it is a minimal cost, and it directly allows us to maintain the listing of businesses, keep track of it, and make sure that the businesses are operating safely . . . effectively and taken care of.”

Both Pima and Safford charge $50 for an annual business license; however, Pima does have a reduced-fee business license of $25 for home-based businesses.

Safford also has a temporary business license that is good for only three months, but it also costs $50.

Graham County does not require a business license; however permits of various costs are required for semi-public and public swimming pools; RV and mobile home parks; hotels and motels; as well as health permits for restaurants and food service, temporary food events, bars, grocery stores and food banks, wells, and septic and sewer systems.
