Text threatening suicide lands man in jail for disorderly conduct, CPS contacted

GRAHAM COUNTY — A Graham County man is behind bars after allegedly having his 10-year-son text the boy’s mother the man was going to kill himself.

The boy told Graham County Sheriff’s Office deputies he heard a gun go “off,” which turned out to be a click rather than a bang. It was later determined the man was brandishing a BB gun and not his .22 caliber pistol, which was found in a lockbox in the man’s vehicle.

After the man was taken into custody, he reportedly again said he was suicidal and began banging his head against the cage in the squad car. After being booked into Graham County Jail, he was placed in a restraint chair for his safety.

After the man’s girlfriend arrived on scene, she reportedly said he routinely threatens suicide while drunk, and had a similar run in with Greenlee County Sheriff’s Office when the couple lived in Morenci.

The man was charged with disorderly conduct; disorderly conduct with a weapon; and use of an electronic device to terrify, intimidate, threaten or harass. Child Protective Services was also contacted because the alleged actions happened in front of all three children in the household.
