SUSD taking steps to reduce coronavirus spread

SAFFORD — Safford Unified School District announced it is dealing with “isolated” cases of COVID-19.

In a press release, Superintendent A.J. Taylor said the district is working with Graham County Health Department to deal with the situation with as little disruption to students as possible.

Taylor said the district is assisting the Health Department in contact tracing, as well as implementing quarantine protocols when necessary.

To help reduce the spread of the virus, Taylor said the district has put in place assigned student seating when possible, requiring staff to self-check for symptoms before coming to school, regularly sanitizing classrooms and playground equipment, asking parents and student to self-check before coming to school, and asking students and staff to stay home when they don’t feel well.

Pima Unified School District was the first to deal with coronavirus after children returned to school, when one class was quarantined the second day of school due to close contact with a staff member who had tested positive.
