MORENCI — The ninth annual Coty Denogean Memorial Suicide Awareness Walk will take place in Morenci in November.

The walk in memory of Coty Denogean, who took his life at the age of 17.

“This walk is to raise suicide awareness and to let others know that there are people who care and are willing to listen. We need to be more open about suicidal feelings and get rid of the stigma and shame,” said Ron Campbell, who organizes the walk with his wife, Theresa.

Campbell said the walk will also focus on veterans dealing with PTSD, homelessness and suicide.

The 2.1-mile low-impact Coty Denogean Memorial Suicide Awareness Walk will take place Nov. 8 at the track around the Morenci High School football field.

Registration starts at 9 a.m., followed by testimonials and a balloon release at 9:30 a.m., and the walk at 10 a.m.

A lunch and a 50/50 raffle will follow the walk, with proceeds to benefit local scholarships.

“Our goal is to raise awareness, allow survivors to cope, and to make a difference, even if it is just one person,” Campbell said.
