SAFFORD — The sounds of hope filled the small theater at the David M. Player Center for the Arts on Wednesday, with singers vying for a spot in the 2021 Gila Valley Idol finale getting a second chance at success.

Call Back Night was the final chance for one person to advance to the finals.

Jeremy Gonzales performed the song “Bad Day.”

“Actually, that song kind of demonstrates what I had last time; I had a bad a day. I rushed the song the last time, so I was like I’m going to come in with this song and I’m going to make my ‘Bad Day’ my best performance that I can do,” Gonzales said.

Eleven hopefuls were on-hand for Call Back Night and the judges said making a decision was difficult.

“I think that the talent is getting better and better,” said judge and 2009 winner Theresa Campbell. “We probably had a shorter supply of singers because of the COVID and the challenges we faced, but I think of the people that I have heard, I think the final is going to be really incredible.”

The finals will take place in the large theater at the David M. Player Center for the Arts on Wednesday, March 24. Due to COVID-19 occupancy restrictions, a limited number of tickets will be made available to the public starting the morning of Friday, March 12. Go to www.gilavalleycentral.net to purchase.

For those unable to attend, the finals will be live-streamed on GilaValleyCentral.net and the Kat Kountry Facebook page.
