Service truck and pickup truck collide on US Highway 70 Near Copper Canyon Drive

On July 2, 2025, at approximately 2:30 p.m., the Safford Police Department, Safford Fire Department, Graham County Sheriff’s Office, and Arizona Department of Public Safety responded to a motor vehicle collision on U.S. Highway 70 near Copper Canyon Drive.

The incident involved an Empire service truck and a small blue pickup truck. Upon arrival, first responders found the service truck on its side. The male driver of the service truck was able to extricate himself from the vehicle without assistance. The female driver of the blue pickup truck required extrication by the Safford Fire Department.

According to driver statements and dash camera footage obtained from the service truck, the Empire service truck was traveling westbound on Highway 70, while the blue pickup was traveling eastbound. Preliminary investigation indicates the blue pickup truck crossed into the westbound lane. The driver of the service truck swerved onto the shoulder in an attempt to avoid a head-on collision. The smaller truck subsequently struck the rear driver side of the service vehicle, resulting in the crash.

The female driver of the blue pickup truck was transported by Lifeline Ambulance for medical evaluation. Her current condition is unknown at this time. Impairment is believed to be a factor in the collision.

The driver of the service truck did not report any injuries.

This incident remains under investigation by the Safford Police Department. No further details are available at this time.
