Seniors abandoned after testing positive for COVID-19

SAFFORD – A pair of senior citizens found themselves with no place to go after testing positive for COVID-19.

Safford Police responded to Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center when hospital staff were unable to find anyone to pick up the two women after they had been medically cleared to leave.

The two women were reportedly residents of an assisted living facility on North Walnut Street and police officers made contact with officials with that facility. Officers reported being told the facility would not retrieve the women due to the positive COVID tests.

Officers then had the facility speak with a hospital attending physician.

There was no report on where the women were placed.
