Samaritan Home, San Carlos Tribe helping keep cold at bay

SAN CARLOS — With overnight temperatures predicted to reach to low 30s and upper 20s over the next few nights, Gila Valley Samaritan Home and the San Carlos Apache Tribe are making warming shelters available.

Samaritan Home is helping the unsheltered get respite from the cold in local motels, while the Tribe has opened warming shelters across the reservation.

The shelters are located at:

  • Michael Noline Activity Center
  • Stanley Hall
  • Gilson Wash Activity Center
  • Seven Mile Wash Activity Center

The shelters will be open from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m., through Jan. 11.

In addition, Samaritan Home is sending 10 sets of jackets, gloves and beanies; along with backpacks with food and hygiene kits, to the shelter in Bylas.
