SAFFORD — While a great deal of attention has been focused on development of the new Kouts Park at 8th Avenue and Discovery Park Boulevard, Safford staff has quietly been getting another park ready to open.
Jace Elkins, engineer for the city, told the Safford City Council that Owens Family Park, located at 14th Avenue and El Paso Boulevard, is close to being finished.
“This project features a shaded playground, with a poured-in-place rubber play surface; a basketball court; turf lawn areas; a couple of armadas; and it’ll have some fenced dog areas that will be separated for small and large dogs,” Elkins said.
As originally planned, the park was to include a zip line and splash pad, but those amenities appear to have been dropped.
Elkins said Owens Park should be open to the public by the end of January.
