Safford Assistant City Manager and U.S. Marine Corps Veteran Sgt. Eric Bejarano Honored with Veteran Servant Leader Award

Tucson, AZ – On Monday, October 7, 2024, U.S. Congressman Juan Ciscomani (AZ-06) hosted the prestigious Veteran Servant Leader Award Ceremony, recognizing veterans from Arizona’s 6th Congressional District for their ongoing contributions to their communities. Among the honorees was Sergeant Eric Bejarano, Assistant City Manager of Safford and a proud United States Marine Corps veteran.

Sgt. Bejarano was nominated for this award by Graham County Supervisor John Howard, acknowledging his exemplary service both in and out of uniform. After serving his country in the Marine Corps, Sgt. Bejarano has continued to embody the spirit of service in his role with the City of Safford and through his extensive involvement in community leadership and development efforts.

“I am truly honored to receive the Veteran Servant Leader Award and extend my heartfelt thanks to Congressman Ciscomani for this recognition and to Supervisor John Howard for his nomination,” said Bejarano. “Serving our community has been a privilege. I accept this award on behalf of all veterans, and I am dedicated to making Safford a great place to live, work, and visit. I am also grateful for every opportunity to contribute to our community.”

Congressman Ciscomani praised Bejarano’s dedication, stating, “I was deeply honored to host this award ceremony to recognize all these remarkable veterans who exemplify leadership, dedication, and service, even after their time in uniform. Eric Bejarano’s commitment to Safford is invaluable and embodies what it means to be a servant leader. This ceremony is not just about celebrating past military service, but also recognizing contributions that make southern Arizona, and our nation, stronger. As a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Eric is an outstanding example of this for the Gila Valley.”

Congressman Ciscomani, who serves on the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, represents over 70,000 veterans in Arizona’s 6th Congressional District. His focus on supporting veterans extends to his legislative work, introducing bills aimed at improving healthcare, mental health support, education, and employment opportunities for veterans transitioning to civilian life.

Sgt. Bejarano’s recognition at this ceremony serves as a testament to his tireless efforts to enhance the quality of life for the citizens of Safford and beyond. His contributions in both military service and civilian leadership are a source of inspiration for the entire community.
