Roy Anson Hatch

Roy Anson Hatch, a resident of Thatcher and formerly of Animas, New Mexico, entered into life eternal Saturday evening, July 11, 2020, at his residence, with his wife of 66 years, Sunnie, and their children at his bedside. Roy was 92.

Roy was born January 23, 1928, the son of Julia Maude Croff Hatch and George Lynn Hatch. He was the youngest of six born to this union joining Mack, Ruth, Myrtle, Harvey and June. Roy grew up on the family farm west of Virden. Following his education, he enlisted in the New Mexico National Guard. In 1950, during the Korean War, Roy was mobilized and assigned to Fort Bliss in El Paso for training in an anti-aircraft 90- and 120-millimeter gun and a 50-caliber machine gun. He later was transferred to Camp Bullis in Texas where he graduated from Atomic, Biological and Chemical Warfare school. In May of 1952, Roy was honorably discharged and returned to Animas to work on the family farm. Soon thereafter Roy met the love of his life, Joyce Harper or “Sunnie” as has been known by all. They were married July 3, 1954. To this union were joined four children, James Lynn, Roy Dale, Charlotte Ann and Deann Jeanette. Roy and Sunnie raised their family on the farm in Animas and instilled in their children the blessing of hard work. Of all of the crops they raised, their four children were the best crop they ever had. Roy was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many capacities including Sunday School Superintendent, High Priest Group Leader and a faithful Home Teacher.

Roy leaves behind: his beloved wife of 66 years, Sunnie; four children, James Lynn Hatch, Roy Dale Hatch, Charlotte Ann Ellis and Deann Jeanette Robinson; twenty-four grandchildren; and fifty-one great-grandchildren. Roy was predeceased by: his mother and father, Julia and George Hatch; his step-mother, Verna Hatch; three sisters and two brothers.
