Region alignment released for 2022-2024 seasons

PHOENIX — Every two years the Arizona Interscholastic Association looks at student enrollment and realign the regions. The initial region placements were made public on Monday afternoon. The schools will have until November 1st at 2 p.m. to appeal the region placement. These regions are for volleyball, basketball, softball and baseball starting in the 2022 season through 2024. The other sports will be aligned separately.

The only big change locally is that Thatcher was placed in the 3A East with Blue Ridge, Holbrook, Payson, Show Low, Snowflake and Winslow. Safford will stay in the 3A South with Andrada Poly, Catalina, Empire, Palo Verde, Pusch Ridge, Sabino, San Miguel and Tanque Verde.

The 2A East will stay the same with the traditional schools of Morenci, Pima, Willcox, Benson, Tombstone and Benson with the addition of Santa Rita to the league starting in 2022.

Duncan will remain in the 1A South with Lourdes Catholic, Patagonia, San Simon, St. David and Valley Union. Fort Thomas will be in the 1A Copper with Hayden, Ray, San Manuel and Superior.

Fall and Winter soccer regions will be released at a later date. Football is scheduled to be released December 15th.
