Record low flu season in Graham County

SAFFORD — As the 2020-21 influenza season comes to a close, Graham County has been virtually untouched by the virus.

The county’s total is at just 10 this flu season, with the last confirmed case taking place the week of March 27.

This year’s cases are 96.8 percent below the five-year average of 310 cases during the flu season.

Five of Graham County’s cases were Influenza A, four were Influenza B and one is undetermined. Three people who tested positive for flu were between the ages of 19 and 49, four were in the 50- to 64-year-old age range and three were over the age of 65.

Greenlee County ended the flu season with just one case, 99 percent below the five-year average of 92 cases during the season. The case of Influenza B in a person over the age of 65 was discovered the week of Feb. 6.

Statewide, there have been just 970 cases of flu this season, 96.5 percent below the five-year average of 27,679 cases.
