SAFFORD — The public had to wait about a year, but the celebration for Safford’s newest park is finally going to take place.
Graham County Chamber of Commerce will join with the city for a ribbon-cutting Thursday, June 3, at 6 p.m., at La Tierra Park.
La Tierra Park, a pocket park at 8th Avenue and 23rd Street, was completed and opened to the public last year, but a celebration was delayed due to the pandemic.
The park features playground equipment, basketball courts, armadas and picnic tables, and a Safford Library little library kiosk.
The next ribbon-cutting will take place at the Gathering Scene-Candy’s on Safford’s Main Street on Friday, June 4 at 6 p.m.
The Gathering Scene-Candy’s is the place for all ages to enjoy gaming, live music and more, as well as enjoy alcohol-free beverages.
“If you buy your game at one of the competitors or anywhere, bring it on in to our store and hang out. If you want to enjoy a cup of coffee or a mocktail there while you’re doing that, that’s great. If not, just come hang out with us; we love doing that,” said David Walter.
The Tumbleweeds will be playing live from 6-8 p.m., Kristine Marchione will be doing facepainting and a Magic: The Gathering tournament will take place.
