Railroad signs, house fences damaged in suspected DUI

SAFFORD — Graham County Sheriff’s deputies assisted Department of Public Safety troopers in locating a woman suspected of driving impaired and knocking down numerous signs and fences.

The incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 7. A witness reporting seeing a vehicle leave the roadway and crash into a railroad sign near U.S. Highway 70 and Lone Star Road. The witness said the driver exited the vehicle, then get back in and crash again, before leaving the scene.

Deputies searched the area until the license plate the witness reported allowed GCSO to track down the suspect’s son. He was able to pinpoint the location of the suspect’s phone.

Deputies found the suspect’s car near Lone Star and Montierth Lane high-centered on a dirt mound near a home. The fence surrounding the home and several posts appeared to be damaged.

Multiple alcoholic beverage containers seen in plain sight in the vehicle and, while attempting to retrieve the vehicle’s registration from the glove box, a bottle of pills fell onto the vehicle’s floor.

A field sobriety test was administered, and the woman was taken into custody by DPS for DUI.
