Project Luke takes place Friday

SAFFORD — The 17th annual Project Luke Christmas Blessing is returning to its roots this year, with a dinner and presents for families in need.

This year’s event will take place Friday, Dec. 10, starting at 6 p.m., at New Life City Church.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions on gatherings, last year’s event was drive-thru without a meal, but this year’s nominated families will receive a full dinner, followed by presents for everyone — adults as well as children.

Families were nominated by school nurses and the public. Invitations are also given to residents of Mt. Graham Safe House and community members with special needs.

Project Luke is based on a passage in the Bible, Luke 14:12-14: “He said also to the man who had invited him, ‘When you give a dinner or a banquet, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, lest they also invite you in return and you be repaid. But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.’ ”

Volunteers to help serve the meal and deliver presents to the families are welcome. To volunteer, call the church at 928-428-4384, between 9 a.m. and noon, or 928-651-3254.
