THATCHER — The “Trump Train” is coming to H. Lyle Grant Thatcher Town Park.

Organizers announced plans for a caravan of supporters of Donald Trump, the Republican nominee for president, on Saturday, Sept. 7, starting at 10 a.m.

“It’s to help promote people to vote,” said Shelly Godfrey. “We’re going to start at the fairgrounds and then just, kind of a line of cars down to Thatcher.”

Trump is not scheduled to appear at the event.

With support of local Republicans, the “Trump Train” is the brainchild of Turning Point USA, a Phoenix-based nonprofit organization that seeks “to restore traditional American values like patriotism, respect for life, liberty, family , and fiscal responsibility,” according to its website. Turning Point USA focuses much of its attention on students.

Once at Thatcher Town Park, the event will feature keynote speaker Cheryl Caswell with Turning Point USA, as well as music and food available from Rafter G BBQ. There will also be free Trump lawn signs available, as well as Trump flags; however, there is no indication if the flags are free or must be purchased.

Turning Point USA will also take applications for paid “ballot chasers” at the event. Ballot chasing is going door-to-door, encouraging voters to seek an early mail-in ballot, and tracking that ballot, making sure it is completed and returned. Caswell is Turning Point USA’s ballot chase manager for the Coronado Area.
