SAFFORD — The 32nd annual National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Food Drive will take place Saturday, May 11.
Residents are asked to place a box next to their mailbox, filled with nonperishable food items, to be picked up by the Postal Carriers and donated to area food banks.
Last year, the food drive generated more than 210,000 pounds of food across Southern Arizona, and this year’s goal is 250,000 pounds.
Organizers said there is a strong need for certain items, including:
- Low-sodium canned beans
- Low-sodium oatmeal and cereal
- Low-sodium canned tomatoes
- Low-sodium canned soup
- Low-sodium canned vegetables
- Canned tuna and canned chicken
- Rice
- Whole-wheat pastas
- Pre-packaged plain nuts
