Pima to celebrate Heritage Days April 22-23

PIMA — “Small Town, Big Heart, Cherished Legacy” is the theme for this year’s Heritage Days in Pima.

Things start Friday, April 22, at 9 a.m., with the Quilt Show in the Cultural Hall of the old Pima Church. The show runs until 4 p.m., and those wishing to display a quilt should contact Kerma Matthews at 928-322-9497, or Diane Allred at 928-485-9462.

At 5 p.m., the traditional barbecue dinner will take place in the Pima High School cafeteria. The meal includes barbecued beef, beans, coleslaw, a roll, root beer and cake. Cost is $10 for those 12 and older, $7 for those younger than 12.

On Saturday, April 23, things get under way at 6 a.m. with the Old Semi-Truck Show in the parking lot of the old Pima Church. Old steam engines will also be on display and the show runs until noon. For entry information contact Shawn Wright.

The Cowboy Breakfast will begin at 7 a.m. at the Carter Farm Museum area.  The breakfast features bacon, pancakes, syrup, eggs and a drink; and the price is $7 per plate.

 The Quilt Show will resume at 9 a.m. and run until 4 p.m.

Eastern Arizona Museum and Historical Society will be open both days for tours, and raffle tickets may be purchased at the museum. Prizes this year include a queen-sized pinwheel picnic quilt created by Judy Phegley and quilted by Donita Rhodes; a walking stick designed and created by RayMetcalf; and a pendant, bracelet and pierced earrings with blue sapphire stones, donated by Edres Barney.
