PIMA — Another digital sign could be coming to the Gila Valley.

The Pima Town Council directed Town Manager Vernon Batty to begin the process of contracting for a new digital sign to be placed in front of Town hall.

“We try to advertise as much as we can, but when we have a job opening and we put that sign out on the highway, that’s when people start coming in,” Batty said. “So if we had a permanent marquee, with some nice graphics that we could advertise things like the Easter Egg Hunt, the (Christmas) Tree Lighting, job openings (and) whatever else we have going on, even just drive safely or have a nice day, I think that would be beneficial.”

Estimated cost is about $40,000 to $45,000. Batty said there are funds to complete the project, which could be initiated before the end of the fiscal year in June.

Batty added that there are “land issues” involving the proposed Welcome to Pima signs, delaying their installation. He said the new marquee in front of Town Hall, with the town’s logo, will help passers-by identify the community until the welcome signs can be installed.
