WILLCOX — Westbound Interstate 10 from the New Mexico state line to Benson remains closed due to a single-vehicle crash.

Arizona Department of Public Safety reports a semi traveling westbound ran off the side of the roadway at milepost 331, just after midnight. The semi then struck a guardrail before smashing into a pillar of the State Route 191 overpass.

The semi became engulfed in fire and the driver was reported deceased at the scene. The driver’s identity has not yet been released.

There were no hazardous materials associated with the vehicle; however, the crash did structural damage to the SR 191 bridge, forcing the closure of north- and southbound 191 at the I-10.

Arizona Department of Transportation is routing westbound I-10 traffic south at Roadforks, N.M., connecting with Arizona State Route 80, through Douglas and Bisbee, before traveling northbound to connect with the I-10 at Benson.

There is no timeline on when the westbound I-10 lanes will re-open. Eastbound traffic is exiting and re-entering the I-10 at the SR 191 interchange.
