New COVID cases remain high to start February in Graham County

SAFFORD — While the rest of the nation is seeing a decline in the number of new coronavirus cases, The Gila Valley continues to see record numbers.

On Thursday, Graham County Health Department reported 233 new cases of COVID-19 over the previous three days. Only December 2021 had more cases in the first three days of a month.

Thursday’s report brings the total cases in 2022 thus far to 2,435, which is 43 percent the total number of cases (5,682) Graham County experienced in all of 2021. It’s also 75 percent the total number of cases (3,228) the Gila Valley experienced in 2020.

The total number of cases recorded in Graham County since the start of the pandemic is now up to 11,345 and the number of active cases as of Feb. 3 is at 2,322.

Arizona Department of Health Services’ Covid dashboard reports 49.7 percent of Graham County residents that have been fully vaccinated.

Graham County Health Department is providing free vaccines to anyone 5-years-old and older, and free boosters to anyone 12 and older. To schedule an appointment for the free vaccine or booster, go to Activities • Graham County, AZ • CivicEngage.

Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center, in partnership with the United Way of Graham and Greenlee Counties, is offering free drive-up COVID-19 testing at the hospital’s Copper Mountain Clinic.

Free drive-up testing takes place Monday through Friday, from 1-5 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
