SAFFORD — The daily average of new COVID-19 cases in Graham County continues to be high, as another 100 new infections were recorded over the past three days.

“We were anticipating an uptick of cases in August, with the opening of schools, and that did occur,” said Health Department Director Brian Douglas. “The cases did decrease by the end of September — we were averaging around 20 cases a day at the end of September, which is considered in the moderate range.

“Then in October there were a lot of activities, such as the Graham County Fair, homecomings and things of that sort, and with colder temperatures our cases increased over 40 cases a day — nearly 50 cases a day — which is definitely in the high transmission range. Now we’re down to about 30 cases a day right now.”

The total number of new cases in November thus far is up to 574, with 711 cases considered active.

There was also announced another coronavirus-related death, bringing the total dead in Graham County due to COVID-19 to 122.
