Morenci hosts 41st Annual Lions Club baseball tournament this weekend

If you are a high school baseball fan Morenci is the place to by this weekend. The 41st Annual Morenci Lions Club tournament will start April 11th at Morenci High School. Twelve teams will compete for the championship trophy in the fundraiser tournament for the Morenci Lions Club.

The tournament will consist of some of the best small school teams in Arizona. #2 Phoenix Christian, #4 Thatcher highlight the 2A teams. #3 Mogollon is the top 1A school and Lake Washington from Kirkland, Washington is the top 3A team with a 10-1 season record.

The tournament kicks off Thursday at 8am as 2A #4 Thatcher will take on 1A #15 Duncan. At 10:30am 3A #23 Safford will battle 1A #3 Mogollon. The 1:00pm game will feature 2A #2 Phoenix Christian against 2A #27 Pima. The host team Morenci will have the night cap as they host Valley Union at 8:30pm. It is a double elimination tournament that will conclude with the championship game Saturday night at 8:30pm.

All of the first round games will be played at the Main Stadium at Morenci High School. Admission is just $3 for adults, $2 for students. 5 and under are free. You can park and watch from the outfield for just $10 per day. The Lions Club will have their famous pork burros for sale at the concession stand as well. All proceeds from the tournament will go to the Morenci Lions Club.
