PHOENIX — Democrats continue to lose ground in Graham and Greenlee counties, while Republicans posted modest gains. But it’s those choosing no party who are growing the fastest.

That’s according to the latest voter registration data released by the Arizona Secretary of State’s Office on Wednesday.

The number of registered Democrats in Graham County fell by 1 percent between July and October, down to 4,993, while the number of registered Republicans increased by 0.5 percent, to 10,085, as of October.

In Greenlee County, the number of registered Democrats fell by 0.6 percent, to 1,627, and the number of registered Republicans increased by 1 to 1,803.

Independent voters choosing no party increased by 1.8 percent in Graham County, to 5,122, in October, overtaking the number of registered Democrats in the county for the first time.

Meanwhile, in Greenlee County, independents grew by 0.8 percent to 1,455.

Statewide, Republicans have a 132,000 advantage over Democrats as of Oct. 1, with 1.5 million voters registered as Republican and 1.37 million registered as Democrat.

But, just as in Graham County, it is registered voters choosing no party that has become the second-largest group of voters, at 1.44 million statewide.
