SAFFORD — The monsoon storms that have been moving through the Gila Valley over the last week have resulted in a road closure.

The Bureau of Land Management announced that Haekel Road is closed  about a half-mile south of the Artesia Road turn-off.

The rains have made the road impassable at mile marker 19.5, and BLM staff spent Monday examining the roadway to see if any other areas suffered equally serious damage.

How long the road will remain closed has not yet been announced and motorists are encouraged to use an alternate route.
