Melda B. Floyd

Melda B. Floyd, age 91, of Safford, peacefully entered into rest Saturday morning, September 3, 2016, at the Edgemont Garden’s Care Center in Tucson.

Bertha R. Melda Williams Floyd was born in Noble, OK, on May 5, 2015. She moved to Safford, AZ, in 1938, with her family. She was married to Roy Floyd in 1941. Melda and Roy ranched in the Safford area for many years, purchased acreage in both Safford and Arkansas. Meldie, as she was known by others, was an expert horsewoman in her early years, a skilled deer hunter and one who raised calves for sell at the auctions. She was an expert gardener and raised and canned many of her foods. She also was a tremendous quilter and made many beautiful quilts that are museum quality.
Meldie lived in the Safford valley for all of her life until the last 3 years when her health failed. She was taken in and lovingly cared for by her oldest granddaughter and her husband who cared for her until she entered the Edgemont Gardens Care facility. There, her granddaughter and her husband visited daily. Her other granddaughter also visited frequently and brought her new baby for Meldie to see; her great-granddaughter named after Meldie’s mother.
In spite of the challenges and hardships that Meldie faced in her life, she remained sweet, caring, and forgiving. She was simply full of love and will be missed by many nieces and nephews and granddaughters who loved her.
She is preceded in death by: her husband, Roy; her father, Jasper; her mother, Eliza; her brother, Reford Williams; her sisters, Repard Flowers, Lillian Flowers and Corine Sircy.
Her love for her family never diminished even when her health failed.
Graveside funeral services for Melda will be conducted Friday morning, September 9, 2016, at 10:00 a.m., at the Safford Cemetery.
