SAFFORD — A Graham County man was treated and released from Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center after accidentally shooting himself.
Graham County Sheriff’s deputies report the incident occurred at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday, July 24. The man said he had cleaned his Springfield XD .45 handgun and then left the room.
When he returned a short time later, he picked up the weapon and, with his finger on the trigger, pulled the slide back. That’s when the gun fired, grazing the man in the abdomen.
Deputies said the man claimed he had forgotten he previously inserted a magazine loaded with ammunition.
The man said his 25-year-old nephew was with him when he cleaned the gun but was not in the room when the gun was fired.
Deputies took the report but no charges were pressed.
