Man assaulted and knocked unconscious

SAFFORD – Last Wednesday around 5:30 pm, authorities were dispatched to a convenience store on Highway 70 due to the report of two men fighting and one getting knocked out. When an officer arrived, numerous people could be seen walking around. A woman approached the officer stating she and her boyfriend were walking to their car when her ex-boyfriend who had been waiting at one of the gas pumps came and sucker punched her boyfriend, knocking him unconscious. Her ex-boyfriend then continued hitting the victim as he laid defenseless on the ground. The woman went to call police and then the ex-boyfriend left in a vehicle and headed towards Safford. The woman reported she did not know why her ex-boyfriend did this. When the officer spoke with several witnesses, they confirmed what had been reported.

The victim was transported to Mount Graham Regional Medical Center ER for his injuries. When the officer arrived and spoke with the victim, the man reported he did not remember anything that had happened. He stated the other man had been threatening him for a while and the victim wished to pursue charges. The victim was later released from the hospital.
