Lunt, Sumner win re-election in Greenlee County

CLIFTON — Following the counting of the final ballots, Greenlee County voters confirmed they want incumbents to remain in place for another four years.

Independent Richard Lunt fended off a challenge by Republican Suzanne Menges to retain the Dist. 3 seat on the Greenlee County Board of Supervisors. Lunt finished with 58.10 percent of the vote to Menges’ 41.90 percent.

Republican Tim Sumner held off a field of three other candidates to win a second four-year term as Greenlee County Sheriff. Sumner finished with 36.30 percent of the vote, followed by independent Eric Ellison with 32.76 percent, Democrat Larry Avila with 22.52 percent and independent Jaime Aguilar with 8.42 percent.

Sumner carried five of Greenlee County’s eight precincts, with Avila carrying the two Clifton districts and Ellison winning the York/Sheldon district.

All results are considered unofficial until canvassed by the Board of Supervisors.
