Local Utilities offer help for furloughed employees

Local utility providers are providing help to federal employees during the government shutdown. The City of Safford and the Town of Thatcher have approved utility assistance programs which provide temporary deferral of utility bill payments for the duration of the shutdown. Late fees associated with all bills will be waived and furloughed federal employees will also have a 90 day grace period to pay the balance of their bill after the shutdown is over.

Proof of employment must be provided. Contact the applicable utility department for specific arrangements.

The Graham County Electric Coop is also offering support for furloughed federal employees. Call 928-485-2451 to discuss individual payment arrangements.
