Local GOP chair seeks civil discourse at weekend picnic

THATCHER — The Graham County Republican Party is hosting an event Saturday afternoon with the goal of a pleasant conversation.

“There’s a lot of people who have concerns about the mandates, the government mandates,” said Graham County Republican Party Chair Kip Kempton. “So all we want to do is have a barbecue, a good band and get together.”

Kempton said the event is a chance to discuss issues from all perspectives, and should not be considered a campaign stop. However, some local politicians, potential candidates or their surrogates have been invited to attend to listen to local residents.

The event, in Thatcher Town Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., is free to attend; however, there will be a small charge to cover the costs of the barbecue lunch.
