BUCKEYE — The Arizona Cattle Growers’ Association is calling on the White House to drop plans to import Argentinean beef.

In a prepared statement released Friday, Oct. 24, the Arizona Cattle Growers’ Association said President Trump’s plan to import the beef as a way to reduce prices to the consumer will not make things less expensive for people at the grocery store.

“Government involvement in the free market never ends well and sets a perilous precedent for all commodities,” the statement reads.

The Association asks the White House to work with ranchers to allow the domestic industry to improve.

Meanwhile, in an Oct. 27 letter to America’s Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer, 16 Democratic U.S. Senators — including Arizona Sen. Ruben Gallego — said it’s more important to support America’s ranchers and farmers than the Argentinean president.

“If the administration wants to address consumer prices and support U.S. farmers and ranchers, it should end the chaotic, across-the-board tariffs that are driving market instability, upending valuable export markets and increasing the cost of equipment and other inputs,” the letter reads.
