SAN CARLOS —Add two more wildfires in the area that crews are battling.

Lightning is the cause of both the Blue River 2 and Valley fires, both on the San Carlos Apache reservation. Both fires were ignited Monday.

The Blue River 2 fire is north of Warm Springs and has burned 12,008 acres of grass and brush. The Valley fire is just south of the Blue River 2 fire and has burned 15,850 acres thus far.

Tribal officials said that, due to the fires’ complexity, a Type 2 team has assumed command from the Type 3 team originally assigned.

Meanwhile the Jackson fire, west of Safford, has grown to about 400 acres as of Tuesday afternoon. A type 3 team has been assigned to the blaze.
