Man shoots himself in the knee

SAN JOSE —Graham County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a home on San Jose Road Sunday for a 65-year-old man who shot himself in the knee.

According to the deputy’s report, the man was lying in bed when he examined his pistol, which he said his nephew had recently cleaned.

The man removed the magazine and discharged the weapon in order to completely disassemble it, but there was a round in the chamber. The bullet entered just above his left knee, exiting just below the joint.

He was transported via Lifeline Ambulance to Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center and the Taurus .221r pistol was taken into evidence.
