Leandra Martha “Okie” Avila Navarrette

Leandra Martha “Okie” Avila Navarrette of Solomon, Arizona, entered into peaceful rest on Monday evening, December 13, 2021. She was surrounded by her husband, children, and grandchildren. She was 78years old.

Martha was born the 9th daughter to Ramon Avila and Leandra Montez in Willcox, Arizona. She was raised by Sesaria Quirozin Solomon, Arizona.

It was at Shorty’s Cafe where Okie worked and where she met her husband of 58 years, Filimon Navarrette. Okie later worked for many years at Casa De Amigos as a resident caregiver.

Together, Okie and Filimon, resided and raised 6 children in Solomon where they later retired. Okie was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be truly missed.

Okie leaves to mourn: her children, Gloria Arreola (Sirenio), Linda Jurado (Frank), Filimon Navarrette, Jr. (Teresa), Tina Robinson (Travis Sr.), Cynthia Navarrette (Michael Roybal), and Andrea Moran (Raymond); her sisters, Mary Alvarez and Shirley Saenz; she also leaves behind her 18 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death and joining her now is: her grandson, Raymond Roybal; her parents and her many siblings.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Martha was celebrated Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Solomon by Rev. Nicodemus Shaghel. Committal followed in the Safford Cemetery.
