Kathleen Margaret Hernandez was born July 22, 1949, in Morgantown, West Virginia. Kat peacefully joined our Heavenly Father on October 9, 2024, in Tucson, at the age of 75 years old.
Kat is the daughter of Ellen and Kenneth Vandervort. She is survived by: her husband of 54 years, Martin Hernandez, of Duncan; her son, Mario Hernandez, of Duncan; her two grandchildren, Kendra Hernandez, of Safford, and Ryan Hernandez, of Mesa; and her two great-granddaughter’s, Braylynn Towery and Kollyn Crandell, of Safford.
Kat Hernandez lived a full and amazing life filled with many travels and accomplishments. She attended Morenci High School where she graduated. She then attended the University of Arizona and studied Kinesiology. Kat then transferred to Western New Mexico University and changed her degree to education administration which she majored in. She was a fill-in principle and English teacher at the Duncan Junior High School for 26 years. Kat retired in 2011.
After retirement, Kat spent quality time with her family and friends. Time was spent relaxing in the sunshine reading or doing crosswords, cooking with her great-granddaughter, and gardening in the evening watching lizards.
A memorial potluck service at East Gate Church on Highway 70 in Duncan, Arizona, was conducted from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., on Monday, October 21, 2024. We also have an email to send pictures, stories or memories of Kat. The email is: inlovingmemoryofkat@yahoo.com.
