Robert William Goodwin was born July 13, 1951, in the Safford Inn Hospital to Robert Goodwin and Bonnie Lee Carpenter Goodwin. He was their first child, quickly followed by Christia Jill, Marcia, James Scott, and Kathryn. His sister, Cecilie joined the family during Bonnie’s marriage to her second husband, Creighton Gregg.
Robert called the Gila Valley home throughout his life, residing for a short time in Tucson in his early youth and living at Fort Grant while his father was employed there. Robert’s grandparents, Gladys and James Harley Carpenter, provided a home base for him where he enjoyed many grand adventures and associations with uncles, cousins, and the other boys that lived on East Relation at the time.
Robert married Colleen Harbut on 11 July 1972, and they welcomed seven magnificent spirits into their circle: Jessica Dawn, Michael William, Karrie Jean, Bonnie Kaye, Robyn Colleen, Tracie Marie and Tanner James. Robert’s bountiful blessings continued to multiply with the addition of 23 grandchildren and soon to be 11 great-grandchildren. The children, grandchildren and great-grands were Robert’s treasure. Loving and sharing all he was and all he had with them was his joy and purpose in life.
After a difficult last year of his life here on earth, Robert succumbed to the ravages of Lupus and passed into Eternity on October 7, 2024, where he joins his daughter, Tracie Marie, his son-in-law, Cory Thatcher and the other members of his family gone ahead, preparing for us all to catch up.
Private family graveside services for Robert were conducted Friday, October 18, 2024, in the Safford Cemetery.
